Network Rail plans to take over the management of Reading and Bristol Temple Meads stations from April 2014. The stations are presently managed by First Great Western on a lease basis, NR retaining the freehold. An £895million rebuilding scheme at Reading is nearing completion and the final phase will be ready by summer 2015, eradicating the bottleneck that has existed for many years. Six new retailers are due to set up shop on Reading's new footbridge, including Boots, Upper Crust, Cards Galore and Oliver Bonas.
