London Gateway - tne country s newest port - officially opened for business on November 7. Freightliner Type 5 No. 66504 had the honour of hauling the first official train from the terminal to Daventry, on behalf of the Hillebrand Group. A second Freightliner service will run to and from Bristol. The deep-water port facility is situated at Stanford-le-Hope, just 20 miles from Central London, and is owned by DP World. The first vessel was the MOL Caledon, a 58,000-tonne container ship, bringing fruit and wine from South Africa. The first trains were run in October as an emergency situation after a fire on a ship, with containers having to be moved by both DB Schenker and Freiqhtliner.
