Two train operators in London and the South East are pressing ahead with smart ticketing systems. South West Trains (SWT) has been given £3.25million by the DfT to invest further in the 'touch in-touch out'technology. The funding will allow SWT to upgrade the ITSO-based ticketing system at all its stations outside London. The technology will help passengers to get the best deals for travelling, such as part-time workers receiving discounts on season tickets for travelling on three days rather than five. Also rolling out the technology is Southern, whose smartcard -known as'The Key'- has gone live in London.
