Phil Marsh talks to Network Rail's special trains chief Stephen Cornish and meets the woman succeeding him to one of the top jobs in the steam world.rnNetwork Rail has appointed a new Special Trains Manager to replace the highly-respected Stephen Cornish, who is to retire this year. The new 'traction inspector' is Rachel Gilliland, who started in the post on April 6 and will initially shadow Mr Cornish while learning the job.rn"The objective is to have a smooth transition and transfer the vast wealth of knowledge and experience Stephen possesses," said NR.rnMs Gilliland began her railway career in 1991 as a BR graduate manager and has held various operating and commercial posts with Eurostar, Railtrack and NR. For the last six years, she has been customer service manager for the Manchester area.
