Preparations for the full reopening of the Severn Valley Railway saw newly-overhauled SVR resident No. 7812 Erlestoke Manor, which last ran in 1986, readied to return to traffic. West Somerset Railway-based S&DJR 7F 2-8-0 No. 88 arrived at the SVR to join the 'Manor' for the big day - its owners, Washford-based Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust, offering its use free of charge-while Allely's Heavy Haulage provided the transport. No. 88 remained at the SVR to appear again in steam over March 29-30 and April 5-6, April 5 being the SVR's 1960s Transport Day. The full 161/2 mile length of the SVR reopened on Good Friday, March 21, (see Headline News) and the new ￡5m Highley 'Engine House' visitor centre opened the same day. Traffic over the Bridgnorth-Hampton Loade section had resumed on February 9 (RM Apr) and has been better than anticipated.
