Writing from the standpoint of a common-sense Aristotelian realism, the author ranges widely and knowledgeably over phenomena related to what he styles "the crisis of Western civilization" - a crisis identified as long as some three quarters of a century ago by thinkers that he cites such as Edmund Husserl, George Santayana, and Paul Valéry; and one that has been progressively ongoing since then, as a number of other notable authors instanced and cited have also clearly seen and written.
