Perhaps the key figure in this respect was Vladimir Solovyov (1853-1900) the son of one of Russia's greatest historians, a restless spirit of unceasing mobility, who functioned between Catholic and Orthodox beliefs (he was a dynamic ecumenicist), was not afraid to engage occasionally in conflicts with the Russian Holy Synod, and who dabbled in Oriental esoterics, without committing himself to it. [...] one specific example, I would say that an awareness of Solovyov's positions of on issues of religious aesthetics (as provided by Hans Urs von Balthasar in his brilliant "micromonograph" included in Herrlichkeit) would be extremely useful.
