In May 2015, the UK will go to the polls to elect a new government. One of the first tasks awaiting the new executive will be to undertake a Strategic Defence and Security Review, currently slated for later this year. In this pre-election edition, the RUSI Journal has invited the leaders of the Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour parties to outline their visions for the UK's security and defence policy. David Cameron was unfortunately unable to accept this invitation, but Michael Fallon, outgoing secretary of state for defence, provided a contribution on the Conservative policy on defence based on a speech given at RUSI on 10 April. In their contributions, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg outline their respective parties' policies on defence and security. For reasons of space, we were unable to extend the same invitation to the smaller parties: however, their increasing contribution to and influence on the political debate, including on defence, will be reflected within RUSI's wider coverage of the general election.
