摘要

General Leclerc - until June 1940 Philippe de Hauteclocque - was one of the most exciting and dramatic leaders in the Second World War. A junior cavalry officer, he rallied at once to Charles de Gaulle, led operations leading to the marshalling of France's Equatorial African colonies to De Gaulle, and went on to lead the historic march of a colonial infantry column of Free French soldiers from Chad across the Sahara to join Montgomery in Libya, and on further to play a very useful role in the breaking of the Mareth Line and the 8th Army's entry into Tunisia.
