摘要

Historical Analysis (HA) is the analysis of past and contemporary operations to better understand the real behaviour of people, organizations and systems, especially in situations of conflict. The HA described here was carried out as an integral component of the Stabilization Operations Study conducted for the Directorate of Force Development, UK Ministry of Defence, by the Policy and Capability Studies department at Dstl (Defence Science and Technology Laboratory). The Stabilization Operations Study is continuing and there are further developments of this work planned, both within that study and in related research, probing more deeply into some of the issues highlighted here. This is not, therefore, a definitive statement but rather a summary of our understanding at the time of writing.
