An effective concept for designing steam turbines for 160, 200, and 300-MW coal-fired power units is examined with Russian specifics and the possibility of improving their efficiency and operating reliability while reducing their cost are considered. Examples of 160 and 300-MW steam turbine designs conforming to this concept and made on the basis of conceptual designs developed at the Moscow Power Institute (MPI) are presented. Certain acute problems that arise in Russia when creating turbines for ultra-supercritical steam parameters in Russia are considered.
