A model is proposed that describes the rise in the concentration of dissolved radioactive and non- radioactive impurities in a thin layer near the surface of the fuel rods of a boiling-water reactor and the return of the impurities from the layer to the mainstream coolant when shedding the load and shutting down the reac- tor. The hideout of the radioactive impurity ~24Na in a boiling-water reactor was experimentally investigated.
