This symposium covered recent trends and progress in the field of Thin Films and Nanostructured Materials for Photovoltaic (THINC-PV) applications. This is the second of a series of 2 events (see Thin Solid Films V. 451-452, 2004). About 185 researchers from 30 countries met to present and discuss the latest finding in the field of research. A major objective of the organisers was to ensure that the various disciplines engaged in the field were represented at the symposium. A second objective was to have as many students and young researchers as possible attending and contributing to the symposium. The technical objectives of this symposium were to address key issues associated with science and technology in this rapidly evolving field of research and to promote contact between basic researcher efforts and technological needs for real industry applications. The presentations concerned thin films and nanostructures based on silicon, chalcogenide compounds (CIS), organic (polymers, molecules) materials and some hybrids. A summary of the highlights is given below.
