Q How do you determine the proper fit of a drop sleeve? I am speaking of the way it hangs from the shoulder, not the sleeve length. Then, how do you adjust it to the body shape? A Designer, educator, and author Connie Crawford responds: Shirts, shirt-styled dresses, and jeans-jacket styles require a dropped shoulder to allow for a roomy and comfortable shirt sleeve with a 31/2-inch-deep cap in the sleeve. In contrast, blouse, dress styles (that do not have a shirt look), and tailored jackets all have fitted armholes with no dropped shoulder seam, thus requiring a higher sleeve cap of 8 to 9 inches.
