Why do clothing manufacturers think that all women are ten feet tall? It seems nearly every time I buy slacks, I have to shorten them by at least a yard. Recently, I had to shorten a pair of pants that were long enough for an amazon. I turned up nearly three feet of material and pinned the hem in place, then I tried on the pants and stood in front of the mirror. Looking down, I wasn't sure if the legs were even. How I wished my daughter was at home to help―no matter how I adjusted the fabric, the legs didn't look even. In came my husband Don. To my surprise he was delighted to help. He plopped down on the floor in front of me and grabbed the yardstick. He carefully placed the pins at the 3-inch mark on both legs. Don is one who never dares to make anything permanent. Everything he repairs or constructs can be easily taken apart by a gust of wind. The tin roof on our shed, for instance, is held in place by tractor tires.
