If Safetember - the FLTA's month-long fork truck safety campaign - could achieve just one thing this year it would be to bring about a profound and lasting change in awareness, attitudes and culture in fork truck operations at every level and in every company or organisation that operates a lift truck. That's why the FLTA will be urging every company that operates FLTs to implement the changes necessary to give workers the freedom to report bad practice in a genuinely blame-free environment. And the FLTA believes a new initiative, the FLTA Safety Champion Award, will help drive that change. After all, everyone has the right to be safe at work. It's the place where most of us spend one-third of our lives. Yet the number of fork truck-related accidents remains stubbornly high, with almost all resulting in traumatic injuries that profoundly change the lives of thousands of people each year.
