Mobile operators have been slow to react to fixed operators' services that offer cheaper calls in a "homezone." Now there are signs they sense a real threat to the progress of mobile substitution. Last month, T-Mobile launched mobile@home in Germany, more than one year after Vodafone's ZuHause product (Total Telecom, May 2005). But it is also a sign of how far all operators have gone in realising the potential for a revived fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) sector. New moves are being led by fixed operators launching a series of services based on unlicensed mobile access (UMA) in the market (see cover story, p. 18).
