Government has been on a long journey with thenew communities agenda.Since abandoning theeco-towns programme in 2010, there has been arollercoaster of momentum - from recognition ofthe ongoing need for new communities and interestin the Garden City idea, then support for a range ofscales of new community, followed by therealisation, at last, that the right financial model, high-quality place-making, stewardship anddeliverability are essential for success, alongside theneed to think on a larger scale and more strategicallythan had previously been considered necessary.
