A group of 11 banks are launching a prototype trade finance application to work on R3's distributed ledger platform Corda. The app is intended to significantly reduce inefficiencies and streamline the processing of sight letters of credit. Banks are increasingly working with fintech firms to speed up and simplify transaction services. While fintech firms are sometimes seen as an existential threat to traditional trade finance providers, collaboration between existing a new market participants is increasingly common.
