摘要

There has been increasing awareness of the negative impacts of road traffic congestion in terms of safety, and environmental, and the effect on the economy. Traffic incidents are considersed as one of the major reasons for growth in traffic congestion. This awareness provides the public support for establishing modern traffic system management using advanced traffic control strategies and technologies. This research is to explore the available sources of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) elements that used for Traffic Incident Management (TIM) in Sultanate of Oman. A number of statistical analysis techniques were conducted to investigate relationships between of the modes of travel and the ITS modules, and traveler information. The results showed that only 52.4% respondent get information about the traffic incident, 60.3% of them get information from radio broadcast, 29.3% from highway police patrol, and about 27.8% from social media. Finally drivers' demographic characteristics, driver's perceived knowledge of the ITS, the source and the content of provided information affect travelers' response to information. This study highlights the importance of using ITS in improving the TIM. It may also help decision makers to develop a strategic vision for the use of ITS technologies in Oman.
