Thermal neutron capture y-ray cross section data were internally calibrated with stoichiometric compounds or accurately-prepared mixtures for all stable elements at the Budapest Reactor in a guided thermal neutron beam. The resulting database was named the Evaluated Gamma-ray Activation File (EGAF).. These data were generally complete for the light isotopes (Z<20), allowing for determination of new, precise total radiative thermal neutron capture cross section directly from the decay scheme as the sum of the γ-ray production cross sections (σ_γ) feeding the ground state. Since the decay schemes for heavier isotopes are incomplete due to the unresolved continuum transitions, the Monte Carlo computer code DICEBOX is used for simulation of the neutron capture decay schemes in order to account for the contribution from the continuum γ-rays feeding the ground state.
