Auto-Modeling of Three-Dimensional Radiation Beam in Accurate/Advanced Radiotherapy System (ARTS)

In most radiotherapy treatment planning systems (TPS), radiation beams are simulated in the two-dimension pattern. It only provides the overlapped two-dimensional images which lack the depth information. This study focused on a geometric modeling method of three-dimensional radiation beam. A module of radiation beam simulation and visualization had been developed and integrated into accurate/advanced radiotherapy system (ARTS) for clinical usage [1, 2]. To verify the accuracy of beam models, the calculated beam parameters were compared with those of the commercial TPS -Venus of Topslane Company [3, 4]. The testing results showed that both accuracy and efficiency of this method met the clinical demands.
