The State Government's Infrastructure Minister, Rene Hidding, has again rejected light rail in Hobart's Northern Suburbs. It was the same minister who rejected light rail and advised that buses were a better option in December 2014. On 29 January 2016 Hidding advised the media that a review of all previous feasibility reports by the Infrastructure Tasmania Chief Executive has found that a light rail service would run at a significant [but not disclosed] operational loss in addition to a requirement to spend at least $100m to construct the line from Glenorchy to Hobart City along the existing railway right of way.
