The boss of Tridec, the Dutch company best known for trailer steering systems, is hardly likely to be the most impartial commentator on semi-trailer axle configurations favoured by UK operators. But it is difficult to argue with his observation that in a crowded country, with short trunking distances, "lots of roundabouts", and a large proportion of distribution undertaken by articulated trucks with tri-axle semi-trailers, there ought to be quite a market for tri-axle steering systems like his company's TD-X, designed with distribution operations in mind. Yet to date, not a single TD-X-equipped trailer has been put into service here. That could be about to change, if Jost GB has its way. Following Jost's purchase of Tridec two months ago (Transport Engineer March), the Heywood, Greater Manchester-based UK subsidiary of the German manufacturer of trailer couplings and landing legs is now responsible for sales and aftersales of Tridec products in the UK, supplementing Tridec's own Netherlands-based direct sales operation and service support from Priden Engineering of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
