Local authorities and other public bodies look set to be called on to break the deadlock in Europe preventing commercial development and uptake of expensive new clean-vehicle technology such as hybrid drivelines. The European Parliament last month voted in favour of an amended European Union directive on the "promotion of European Union," said European Commission vice president Antonio Tajani (also in charge of the commission's transport directorate) last month in response to the European Parliament's overwhelming vote in favour of the proposal.
