On the 5th February HRH the Princess Royal formally opened the new centre, which controls 42 per cent of the annual 2.2m flights in the UK's controlled airspace.rnThe Princess said "It is excellent to see the level of investment and the care that has been taken not only with the technology but also with the people." Congratulating the team on the successful transitions - and the move of Manchester colleagues to Prestwick, she said: "I know this is never an easy process - and this is only a point in the development of air traffic control and I hope and wish you the very best for the future."
