Ian Smith, Executive Director of UK Bus Awards was able to tell Wessex centre members that there are exciting plans afoot to make 2008 a memorable year for top transport award scheme and its participants. There will be a launch ceremony and call for entries by Transport Minister Rosie Winterton MP at the Department for Transport offices in London's Marsham Street in mid-March. Would-be award winners will then have three months to prepare and submit their entries; entry forms, detailed criteria and full guidance will be available from the Awards website. The judging panels will meet in July and August to review the entries and select the shortlists for each award category and the shortlists will be announced at a special event in September for awards participants to be held 'on location' close to a scheme of interest such as the Kent 'Fastrack' BRT system. The Awards 'Best Practice' seminar will then take place the following day. Those attending both days' events will be able to stay overnight at special rates and network with colleagues before and after dinner at which a speaker will be provided.
