Recently I submitted a letter-to-the-editor in response to a May 7, 2009, Washington Post article titled, "As Inspections Dwindled, Water Main Breaks Rose." The article spoke about how the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) and DC Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA) are not adequately inspecting or performing the necessary preventative maintenance, which resulted in the failed water mains Sadly, this is simply one story among many others we hear about in densely-populated areas throughout the country.rnThe good news is this article gives us an opportunity to tell the story of our industry. While my letter didn't get published, I know it was read and the more opportunities we have to educate our media, our story will begin to be told to our general public.
