The August announcement that BP needed to close part to shut down part of its Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, crude oil facility due to severe pipeline corrosion and leaks made national — and international — headlines. While this seems perfectly natural — especially given the volatility in the energy sector — it also begs the question: Why don't sewer and water pipelines garner the same level of interest in the mainstream media?
