Sandvik's new duplex (SAF2205) and super duplex (SAF2507) grades of stainless steel are particularly applicable to the hydraulic tubes used in offshore oil drilling risers. These risers link the drilling equipment with machinery on the seabed. Designed as a highly corrosion resistant alternative to standard 316L steel grades, the duplex steel is also said to offer superior tensile and yield strength, thus promising weight and cost savings when constructing hydraulic tube.
