ABB has adapted the end-shields and housing on its standard industrial electric motor to increase the cooling surface area by around 25 per cent, and as a consequence 'doubling' the anticipated operating life. The M3000 motor is available in 4-710k W ratings and is targeted at those process industries where premature motor failure would be particularly costly: metals; paper & pulp; chemicals; cement; water and building materials. Motors fit into IEC frame sizes 112-400; with the smaller units composed of aluminium and the remainder cast-iron.
