The Physics and Technology of Diagnostic Ultrasound: A Practitioner's Guide adds to a growing number of texts on this subject. In common with the others, its stated aim is to help medical professionals to develop a sound understanding of the physical and technical principles of diagnostic ultrasound. The author claims that due to the complex nature of the equipment, its interactive nature and its limitations and associated artefacts, it is essential for clinical users to have such an understanding, a sentiment that is hard to disagree with. In addition, this book is clearly intended to give guidance to practitioners on how to operate the equipment to optimize diagnostic information.
