This article recounts the development and implementation of an Advanced Practitioner Interventional Service, performingnultrasound-guided drainage procedures, in one National Health Service Hospital in the UK. The article details and explains thenrationale behind implementation of the service, describes the training and supervision required to safely institute the servicenand documents the problems and limitations encountered during implementation of the service. The service is seen to be annatural progression for the advanced practitioner in ultrasound but with the proviso that there must be a robust supportnmechanism at all times.
