The publication dates of the papers range from May 20061nto November 20082 and cover topics ranging from earlynembryonic heart detection2 and the role of ultrasound innearly pregnancy detection,3 through fetal heart imaging,4nvasa praevia,5 and placenta accreta6 to overviews ofnneural tube defects1 and the value of obstetric ultrasound.7nThe range and depth of subject matter covered provides notnonly an excellent aide memoire for the experienced sonographernbut also an opportunity to reflect on the changes innpractice that have taken, and continue to take place,nwithin the specialty. A word of warning, therefore, fornreaders who are students or relatively new to obstetric ultrasoundn– clinical practice in Norway in 2006 should not bentaken as representative of routine practice in the UK eithernin 2006 or indeed 2010.1 In addition, the publication of thenFetal Anomaly Screening National Standards8 in Januarynthis year has changed the interpretation of appearances previouslynknown as soft markers.7 These two papers in particularnallow us all to reflect on the importance ofnassessing information within its appropriate context and atnthe time of its writing.
