Thames Water plc (London, U.K.) has selected three teams to undertake portions of the $3.5 billion large-diameter tunnel work associated with the utility's planned "mega-sewer" project, the 25-kilometer (15.53 miles) Thames Tideway project, reported to be the United Kingdom's largest water infrastructure project. The work on the west tunnel section will be conducted by a joint venture between U.K. companies BAM Nuttall Ltd., Morgan Sindall Plc, and Balfour Beatty Group Ltd. A joint venture between Ferrovial Agroman U.K. Ltd. and Laing O'Rourke Construction Ltd. will perform the work on the central tunnel section, while a team consisting of Costain Group plc, Vinci Construction Grands Projets S.A., and Bachy Soletanche Ltd. will work on the eastern section. All of the tunnel work is being delivered under a lump-sum, design-build basis. The $6.5 billion Thames Tideway program is being managed by CH2M HILL (Denver, CO).
