Unmanned aircraft systems are revolutionizing the operations and maintenance corner of the energy sector. Drone inspections of pipe lines, power lines, wind and solar farms save time and money. Robot crawlers and swimmers are also being studied for such work by unmanned vehicle and energy sector companies. Crawlers are good for confined spaces, perhaps inside a wind turbine tower. Caged drones might bounce around, collecting data on the inside of such towers. Tethered swimmers might inspect underwater pipes.
