The days of drones delivering goods to consumers across the United States are upon us, albeit modestly to start. And though 2020 seems poised to spawn yet wider distribution of drone delivery services, from medical prescriptions to fast-food hamburgers, it will take federal promulgation of final rules before the industry can officially cut the ribbon. With final federal rules governing drone operations in the pipeline, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is, in the meantime, permitting exemptions to existing rules to enable the first class of commercial drone deliveries to infiltrate the nation's growing door delivery service industry.
