Britain's Royal Navy appears to have set sail toward a new era in unmanned technology, following a major demonstration off the coasts of Scotland and Wales. Unmanned Warrior 2016 saw about 40 companies and organizations demonstrate more than 50 unmanned aircraft, surface vehicles and underwater vehicles under a range of themes including anti-submarine warfare, ISTAR [intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance], command and control and mine countermeasures as part of the large-scale U.K. naval exercise Joint Warrior in October.
