The latest example of growing interest in the high seas has surfaced in the form of a $7 million global competition aimed at advancing deep-sea technologies for autonomous, fast and high-resolution ocean exploration. Engineers, scientists and innovators from around the world have been invited to take part in the Shell Ocean Discovery X Prize.
