European regulators are moving full force on creating space over the continent for commercial unmanned systems flights. On the heels of creating the Riga Declaration, where participating regulators and stakeholders decided to take a risk-based, technology-neutral approach to unmanned airspace integration, officials also met at the International Civil Aviation Organization's first remotely piloted aircraft symposium in March to hash out how to flexibly regulate UAS. A stark contrast to many regions of the world that are outright banning drones or more slowly integrating them, Europe could become the go-to location for both indigenous company UAS flights and a prime testing location for organizations around the world.
