Lockheed Martin announced in August that its Indago quadrotor is being used by the Heliwest Ground in partnership with geoscience company Total Earth Solutions to conduct seabird surveys and monitor coastal erosion in Australia. Total Earth Solutions created a 3-D map of the terrain surface using imagery captured by the platform. "This new application of the Indago quadrotor demonstrates the breadth of use cases for small UAS across a range of civil and commercial interests," says Jay McConville, director of business development for Lockheed Martin's Unmanned Solutions business. Heliwest previously used the five-pound Indago in January to aid in wildfire containment in Australia and in spring to assess damage after Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu.
