In mid-September, California Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed SB 142, which would restrict unmanned aircraft operations of less than 350 feet over property without the individual or authorized entity's permission. "We applaud Gov. Brown for vetoing this unnecessary and restrictive legislation. While the industry supports the safe, nonintrusive use of UAS technology, SB 142 would have stifled innovation, hampered economic growth and created inconsistencies with federal law," said AUVSI President and CEO Brian Wynne in a released statement. The protected zone in the bill would have begun at ground level.
