Measuring the cost effectiveness of unmanned systems isn't as easy as it might seem. There's no one-size-fits-all answer. There are big unmanned systems and little ones. There are air, land and water types. It is true that some are obviously cost effective. Small, commercially operated unmanned aerial systems, for instance, are more cost effective than manned aircraft. "That's a no brainer," says Young Kim, general manager of BOSH Precision Agriculture, Newport News, Va.
