摘要

Employees of Precision Integrated Programs often spend months overseas flying unmanned aircraft for the U.S. military. Starting last year, the Newberg, Oregon-based company began to turn their expertise to a different goal: preserving wildlife. Companies such as Airware and Falcon UAV have joined the anti-poaching fray in Africa (for more on that, see the March issue of Unmanned Systems), but Precision got its start in Central America. "Last year was our first opportunity to jump into the conservation arena," says Matthew Parker, Precision's director of operations. "What we did is, we sent an Elbit Skylark with one of our operators down to Costa Rica for 90 days. The mission was to protect the fishing sanctuaries off the Pacific coast. It was during the rainy season. It was during the turtle migration season. What they found is, they have a lot of shrimpers that are patrolling and drag netting in these areas, and it's decimating the turde population."
