In addition to helping prevent war, un-manned aircraft can also be used to assess storm damage to electrical power distribu-tion systems in the wake of storms, helping utilities restore power faster. The Electric Power Research Institute re-cently tested various unmanned aircraft at New Mexico State University's Unmanned Aircraft Systems Flight Test Center. It used high-resolution video payloads to transmit images of damaged power lines from alti-tudes of 5,000 to 7,000 feet.
