Aero Vironment says its much-used Raven RQ-11B unmanned aircraft has gained a new miniature gimbaled sensor payload, giv-ing it more flexibility over the battlefield and giving operators greater control of its sensors. The modular payload includes a color and thermal infrared sensor and a laser illumina-tor. The new gimbaled payload will be a stan-dard component of future Ravens and can be fitted to older models as an upgrade. The new payload will require a software update for each vehicle and ground control station, the company says.
