摘要

U.S. Naval Air Systems Command has opted to initially fund both Boeing and Lockheed Martin's bids to provide cargo resupply services to the Marine Corps in Afghanistan, although only one is expected to ultimately be fielded. NAVAIR announced 2 Dec. that it will give Boeing/Frontier Systems $29.9 million for its A160T Hummingbird-based effort and $45.8 million to Lockheed Martin/Kaman for their K-MAX system. Both systems were demonstrated to the U.S. Marine Corps earlier this year and both met the requirements, so NAVAIR opted to pay for two systems for now. "We are trying to get this much needed capability to the warfighter as quickly as possible," says Rear Adm. Bill Shannon, program executive officer for unmanned aviation and strike weapons.
