Teams from the United States made a clean sweep at the first Multi Autonomous Ground-robotics International Challenge (MAGIC 2010) in Australia. A team from the University of Michigan and its partner SoarTech, of Ann Arbor, Mich., was the top winner, receiving a USD $750,000 grant at the awards ceremony at the Land Warfare Conference in Brisbane. "Behind Team Michigan's robots was an amazing group of students who spent countless hours building, programming and testing the entire team of robots — and they also dealt with the formidable logistical challenges of putting everything together and shipping it 10,000 miles away," says assistant professor Edwin Olson, team lead from the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Michigan.
