摘要

History The Seafarer Chapter was chartered in 1998 as a way to help promote unmanned systems within Naval Air Systems Command and the U.S. Navy, as well as in the surrounding community. The current membership stands at 130. Several chapter members have gone on to win recognition from AUVSI: Dave Seagle, a current AUVSI board member, was named member of the year in 2002; Joe Brannan received that award in 2007; and Jim Curry received it in 2009. Rear Adm. William Shannon, program executive officer for aviation and strike weapons, received the Outstanding Contributor Award from the AUVSI Foundation in 2010. In addition to hosting semi-regular monthly meetings that include industry and government speakers, the Seafarer Chapter hosts joint events with groups such as AFCEA (the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) and INCOSE (the International Council on Systems Engineering). Joe Brannan, the chapter's president, says, "We do outreach, we support the local FIRST robotics competitions and Math Counts, and we donate to several of the local high schools" that compete in various robotics competitions.
