Australia has been a relative latecomer in the use of military unmanned aircraft systems but seems determined to catch up fast.rnFollowing earlier decisions to lease Boeing/Insitu ScanEagles and more recently a larger Heron - manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and leased through Canada's MacDonald Dettwiler - Australia is now set to take the plunge and purchase Shadow 200Bs via the long running, but troubled, Joint Project 129. While there has been no official announcement, the very clear smoking gun appeared in May with the U.S. Congress being notified of a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Australia of 2 RQ-7B systems.
